Hortense Shares a
Family-Focused Guide
to Life Beyond Paris
Balancing life with three young children, a career in fashion PR, and a love for slow family moments, Hortense has found her rhythm just outside Paris in Asnières-sur-Seine. From early morning bakery runs to weekend escapes in the forest near Chantilly, she shares her favorite places to eat, explore, and unwind with little ones in tow. Whether it’s brunch in the city, garden walks in Versailles, or ice cream by the sea, Hortense brings a warm, effortless charm to family life in and around the French capital.
HOW'S YOUR CITY AS A FAMILY DESTINATION?
"I love how family-friendly our neighborhood in Asnières-sur-Seine is. The parks are full of play areas, and it’s easy to meet other parents with children the same age. It creates a real sense of community. Everyone enjoying time outdoors together, both kids and adults. Being just outside Paris also gives us the flexibility to enjoy city culture while keeping a slower, more grounded pace at home."
WHAT ARE THE BEST PLACES TO PLAY?
"We like to go a little further out for a change of scenery. One of our favorite escapes is the forest near Chantilly. It’s just an hour by car and perfect for walks with the children. Versailles is another beautiful spot for family time, with its wide open gardens and peaceful surroundings. Closer to home, the local parks keep our routine fun and active."
ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FOOD AND TREATS?
"For everyday treats, we love our neighborhood bakery, Tranché. It’s always fresh and full of life. And when we’re away on holiday, La Martinière on the Île de Ré is a must. Their ice creams are amazing, with so many creative and unexpected flavors. Whether we’re at home or traveling, meals are a big part of how we connect as a family. We really enjoy eating out together, from casual cafés to more special spots."
WHAT'S THE BEST PLACE FOR SHOPPING AND ESSENTIALS?
"When it comes to clothing, I like to mix styles from local shops and brands I discover through Instagram. I’m drawn to classic, elegant pieces that still feel relaxed. Something that fits well into both work and family life."
WHAT IS SIMPLY A MUST-SEE?
"We’re lucky to live so close to Paris, where there’s always something going on for children. The Transparence exhibition at the Grand Palais is beautiful and engaging, and we also love Palomano City in Clichy. A fun place for kids to play and a great spot to enjoy brunch as a family. Both are playful and inspiring, and perfect for spending quality time together."
