Copenhagen Summer — Guide with Kids

TRAVEL WITH KIDS

Copenhagen Summer — Guide with Kids

The Nofred guide to Copenhagen in summer — our favourite spots for long days, open parks, and everything in between.

Copenhagen in summer is something special when you have children with you. The smell of the city, a bakery around the corner when you need a little break. Bikes spilling out of doorways, the different neighbourhoods — all with room for children. The harbour pools offering a cool pause when the day gets warm.

Nofred is based in the city and we cycle, walk and move through it every day. Copenhagen with kids means playgrounds tucked behind beautiful buildings, coffee in the sun while the kids play, and that particular mix of noise and quiet cobbled streets. Summer here is generous and
unhurried. There is room for everyone. Come along.

FLERE FUGLE

A neighbourhood favourite for a reason. Great coffee, a relaxed breakfast menu, and the kind of unhurried atmosphere that sets the tone for a good day. Kids are welcome, the pace is gentle, and there is no rush — exactly how a summer morning should start.

OMAR

A relaxed, funky neighbourhood spot on Nørrebro with a classic menu, an impressive wine list, and al fresco dining when the summer weather plays along. The laid-back atmosphere makes it easy to settle in with kids — no rush, no fuss. Perfect for a long lunch or an easy dinner at the end of a good day.

TÅRNLEGEPLADSEN, FÆLLEDPARKEN

One of Copenhagen's best playgrounds — a tower structure in the heart of Fælledparken that children absolutely love. Staffed by pedagogical staff, so parents can actually breathe for a moment. Open Monday to Thursday 9:30–17:00 and Friday 9:30–16:30 during summer.

SMK — STATENS MUSEUM FOR KUNST

Denmark's national gallery is far more family-friendly than it
sounds. Kids love the grand architecture and open spaces to roam, and the museum runs a dedicated children's workshop — Børnenes Værksted — every weekend and during school holidays. Here they can work with materials, make their own art, and get inspired by what is on the walls. Each month focuses on a different activity tied to the collection.

Recommended for ages 3 and up, and included in the entrance ticket. Children under 18 get in free.

TORVEHALLERNE

The oldest royal garden in Denmark, right in the city centre. Plenty of space for children to run freely on the lawns — and in summer, the Marionette Theatre in the park puts on daily performances at 11:00 (30 minutes, no interval) that are not to be missed. Arrive at 10:45 to get a good spot.Fresh produce, artisan cheeses, open sandwiches, great coffee, and enough pastries to keep the kids happy. One of Copenhagen's most beloved food markets — perfect for grazing, picking up picnic supplies, or simply soaking in the atmosphere. Israels Plads offers a multi-court playground perfect for ball games, free play, and skateboarding. A natural stop for the kids while you finish your coffee.

AMALIENBORG

The changing of the guard happens daily at noon — children are always fascinated by the pageantry and precision of it. The Life Guard, who stands watch for the royal family, marches through the city streets to reach the palace square, making the whole event as much about the journey as the destination. The waterfront setting just beyond is one of the most scenic spots in the city.

TIVOLI

A rite of passage for any child visiting Copenhagen. The rides, the gardens, the lights, the general sense of wonder — Tivoli in summer is genuinely magical for kids and adults alike. Save it for when you have energy and the evening light is golden.

RIGA

Good drinks, a relaxed crowd, and a Litauens Plads right next to Riga that keeps children happily entertained while the adults finally sit down. A proper Copenhagen summer evening — one of those spots where nobody is in a hurry to leave.

LA BANCHINA

A waterfront gem on Refshaleøen — part natural wine bar, part harbour bath, part neighbourhood gathering spot. Children can swim in the harbour while you sit with a glass of something good and watch the city from a different angle. One of those places that feels like a proper Copenhagen summer secret.

NYHAVN

Colourful 17th-century townhouses, bobbing wooden boats, and a canal that children find endlessly captivating. Walk the length of it, stop for an ice cream, and let the kids take it all in — this is Copenhagen at its most iconic. If the day is warm, hop on one of the canal boats for a tour of the city from the water. A classic for a reason.
