Camilla Louise Høg's Sun-Filled
Family Guide To Humlebæk
Just north of Copenhagen, Camilla Louise Høg is embracing a slower rhythm of family life in the seaside town of Humlebæk. With two young daughters and a deep love for nature, community, and creativity, her summer days are filled with outdoor adventures, cultural visits, and everyday moments made special. Here, she shares her favorite places to play, eat, explore and the joy of raising children where forest meets sea.

HOW'S YOUR CITY AS A FAMILY DESTINATION?
"We live in Humlebæk, a former summerhouse village that still holds onto its easygoing charm.
There’s a relaxed, almost rural pace to life here. The kind of place where people greet each other on the street and the air feels just a bit fresher. We’re surrounded by nature, with forest and beach just a short walk away, and we spend time outdoors every single day.
Our garden is a little haven with swings, fruit trees, sun loungers, and my sister and her family live right next door, separated only by a hedge. It’s pretty idyllic."
WHAT ARE THE BEST PLACES TO PLAY?
"One of our favorite weekend spots is Aarstiderne’s farm shop, located at Krogerup Folk High School. It’s much more than just a shop. While the organic produce is amazing, there’s also a cosy café and, best of all, a hay bale playground out by the fields that our kids adore. We had our daughter's baptism party up there and it was great.
We also love visiting the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. The children's wing always has creative activities tied to the exhibitions, and there’s a great slide tucked behind the building. The sculpture park is fun to explore with little ones, and it's one of those places that feels just as magical for adults as it does for children."

ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FOOD AND TREATS?
"Our go-to café is Hej Humlebæk, right by the train station in the old station building. It gets lovely morning light and serves great coffee, homemade buns, cookies, and, in the summer, really good ice cream. There’s a big outdoor space where the kids can play, and it’s always a hit with the whole family. Just 10 minutes up the coast is Helsingør. The Nordhavn area is a must-visit.
The bakery Markbrød is a favorite for us. Everything they make is delicious. The area is also perfect for kids, with a nature-inspired playground and a hands-on outdoor water lab at the Øresund Aquarium, where children can explore marine life and try catching crabs. You’ll also find homemade ice cream and classic Danish fish and chips there.
Closer to home, we often visit Divina Pizzeria at Espergærde Harbour, just five minutes away. It’s always buzzing, the pizzas are great, and the atmosphere is relaxed and child-friendly.
For a night, or lunch without kids, We are also lucky to have a world class restaurant in Humlebæk, Restaurant Sletten."

WHAT'S THE BEST PLACE FOR SHOPPING AND ESSENTIALS?
We buy a lot of secondhand for our children, clothes and toys alike, and we’re often browsing the local thrift shops.
When we’re shopping for gifts, the Louisiana Museum Shop and Stokkeværk in Espergærde are our go-to places."
WHAT IS SIMPLY A MUST-SEE?
"The beaches in Humlebæk are one of the things I treasure most. We swim, walk, and play there year-round.
Our favorites are the beach behind Louisiana and the one by Humlebæk Harbour. Both just a stone’s throw from home.
We’re lucky to have so many great museums nearby, and we make the most of them.
Our top picks are Nivågård, Louisiana, the Øresund Aquarium, and the M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark in Helsingør. Each offering something special for both kids and grown-ups."
