WHICH OUTDOOR AREA DO YOU USE THE MOST, AND WHY THAT PARTICULAR ONE?
“In Fuerteventura, of course, it’s all about beaches! Though the Atlantic can be cold, our kids never mind. If your kids are a bit sensitive to cold, bring neoprene suits — problem solved. Due to the tides, there are very often big puddles with warm seawater at the beach, absolutely perfect for kids to play in! The sand dunes of Corralejo are another big natural playground. Ours can play ALL DAY with what they find in the sand — barefoot, happy and exhausted by the end of the day.”
IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL YOU'D RECOMMEND TO PRIORITISE?
“We always end up choosing a beach destination — it’s where I feel most alive, and life with kids is simply easier there. Going to new places that are a bit exotic, just different, and maybe not as convenient as home: for me, this is life. It keeps me grounded and thankful. It gives me humility towards our beautiful world and openness to new cultures — and this is what I want to teach my kids.”
IS THERE ANYTHING SPECIAL YOU'D RECOMMEND TO PRIORITISE?
“A whole day to ourselves is hard to imagine these days, but a perfect one looks like this. We wake up in our Airbnb in Lajares and take a stroll to Almirante for breakfast, then let the kids play a little on the nearby playground. Coming home, we pack our beach essentials, load the surfboards onto the car and drive 10 minutes to El Cotillo or El Moro beach for a little surf session.
When we’re done and hungry, we go home, take a quick shower and walk to Oken in Lajares for lunch — I stop by the Pulaumi boutique next door and buy a cute pair of shorts or a T-shirt. After lunch we chill by the pool. For sunset, we grab some pizza at Marameo in El Cotillo and go down to Playa Esquinzo to watch the sun go down. Perfect day!”
